Canthoplasty & Canthopexy
Canthoplasty and canthopexy are advanced periocular procedures designed to enhance the shape, position, and support of the lower eyelid and lateral canthus (outer corner of the eye). These techniques play a crucial role not only in aesthetic refinement but also in maintaining eyelid function and stability.
The primary goals of these procedures include improving eyelid support, preventing or correcting eyelid laxity, and achieving a more defined and youthful eye contour. They are often performed in conjunction with lower eyelid blepharoplasty, midface lift procedures, or other facial rejuvenation surgeries to optimize both safety and aesthetic outcomes.
Canthopexy is a less invasive technique that reinforces and tightens the existing lateral canthal tendon without significantly altering its natural position. It is commonly used in patients with mild to moderate eyelid laxity or as a preventative measure to reduce the risk of postoperative complications such as lower eyelid retraction.
Canthoplasty, on the other hand, is a more advanced procedure that involves repositioning and reconstructing the lateral canthus. This technique is typically reserved for patients with more significant eyelid laxity, structural weakness, or when a more noticeable change in eye shape is desired.
A deep understanding of periocular anatomy is essential when performing these procedures. The delicate balance between function and aesthetics must be preserved to avoid complications such as eyelid malposition, asymmetry, or an unnatural appearance.
Dr. Mirza Fırat approaches canthoplasty and canthopexy with a highly individualized, anatomy-driven strategy. In addition to conventional techniques, he is also able to perform these procedures endoscopically in selected cases. This approach allows the procedure to be carried out through minimal and well-concealed access points, enhancing precision while avoiding visible external incisions.
In many cases, these procedures are integrated into a comprehensive treatment plan—such as lower eyelid surgery or endoscopic midface lift—to provide structural support to the lower eyelid, enhance long-term stability, and achieve more natural, harmonious results. When combined with endoscopic techniques, canthal support can be reinforced in a more controlled and anatomically precise manner.
By combining precision, advanced anatomical knowledge, and a conservative surgical philosophy, Dr. Mirza Fırat aims to deliver outcomes that are both aesthetically refined and functionally sound—preserving the natural expression of the eyes while ensuring long-term safety and durability.
